I’ve never purchased a couture gown. What should I expect?
Clients who purchase a couture gown are in for a wonderful experience that is shaped by a process. The Process consists of an initial consultation, conceptual sketches, toile fittings and final fabric fittings.
The Process
Consultation
-Each gown begins with a consultation. During the consultation we will discuss the timing and other details surrounding your event or special occasion. We will take measurements and recommend silhouettes. At this time, we will discuss color, fabrics, and embellishments. We will also discuss your desired budget for your gown.
*There is an initial consultation fee of $100. Should you move forward with a commissioned garment, the cost of the consultation will be included.
Sketches
-Based upon your consultation, we will generate 3-5 sketches of conceptual designs. Each sketch will make note of silhouette, color and fabric recommendations. Pricing estimates will also accompany each sketch.
Estimates and final pricing
-Please note that final prices will only be available once shopping has occurred as prices may change dependent upon materials selected. Throughout this stage you will be kept abreast of any changes in pricing and can select materials that fit within your budget.
Toile fittings
-Upon final sketch approval, we will begin constructing the first muslin toile. Several toiles may be necessary to perfect the fit. Only after the final toile is approved by you, will we cut into final fabric.
What is a toile?
-A toile is a full-scale mock-up of your gown created out of fabrics with similar characteristics so that you will have an idea of the volume and movement that the final fabric will have. Most importantly, the toile is used to perfect the fit all the way down to the last 1/8 of an inch. Think of it as a 3D sketch.
Expect at least 3 fittings
-The number of fittings required will be dependent on the complexity of the garment but most clients can expect at least 3 fittings. Only after the fit has been perfected and approved will construction in the final fabric begin.
How far in advance should I schedule a consultation?
-We recommend that the initial consultation be scheduled 6 months to one year prior to the delivery date.
*Rush orders may be possible, so please inquire.
